Watch The Celebration of a Lifetime
12:40-1:00 p.m. Observatory Director Dr. E.C. Krupp presents our 80th anniversary local noon ceremony by the Meridian Arc at the south end of the Gottlieb Transit Corridor.
6:00-6:20 p.m. Councilmember Tom LaBonge joins Dr. Krupp on the north steps of the Observatory building to recognize a Los Angeles icon.
7:00-7:30 p.m. Arnold Schwartzman, author of Griffith Observatory: A Celebration of Its Architectural Splendor, will discuss his recently released book with Dr. Krupp in the Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon theater. Immediately after the discussion, Mr. Schwartzman will sign copies of his book for the public (the book is available for sale at the Observatory’s Stellar Emporium gift shop).
All three events are free and open to the public. Seating for the book discussion is on a first-come, first-served basis, up to the capacity of the theater.
